Vuelta 2026: Route and stages

The Grand Départ of the 81st edition of La Vuelta a España will take place in Monaco on Saturday, 22 August 2026. It marks the third consecutive foreign start, following Portugal in 2024 and Italy in 2025. Stage 1 is a 9.6-kilometre individual time trial held entirely on Monegasque territory. From there, the red caravan heads through southern France and Andorra into Spain. The bulk of the route runs through the scorching south, before the Vuelta concludes in Granada on Sunday 13 September.

La Calahorra - Collada de Alguacil

Saturday 12 September - With more than 5,000 metres of climbing packed into 187 kilometres, the penultimate stage of the Vuelta is an absolute brute. The riders face four climbs, including a double ascent of the steep Alto de Hazallanas, before finishing atop the Collado de Alguacil, a 16.7-kilometre climb with the final 8 kilometres averaging 9.5%.

Vélez-Málaga - Peñas Blancas

Friday 11 September - Stage 19 of the Vuelta covers 205.1 kilometres from Vélez-Málaga to the summit of Peñas Blancas. Three climbs precede the final challenge: a 19-kilometre ascent at an average gradient of 6.7%.

Friday 4 September - Stage 13 of the Vuelta a España is a 193.2-kilometre hilly stage with a flat finish. Most of the climbing comes in the first 84 kilometres.

Jaén - Sierra de la Pandera

Saturday 5 September - Stage 14 of the Vuelta takes the riders from Jaén to the Sierra de la Pandera. The 152.7-kilometre route offers virtually no flat roads before culminating in an 8.4-kilometre final climb averaging 7.8%.

Palma del Río - Córdoba

Sunday 6 September - Stage 15 of the Vuelta could be a scorcher. Quite literally. Over 181.2 kilometres, the riders cross the heart of Andalusia from Palma del Río to Córdoba, tackling around 2,800 metres of climbing along the way.
